Lying in the middle of the vast Mallee farming plains, the Grampians region is actually four small mountain ranges which occupy a total area of about 170,000 hectares. The region is now a National Park and incorporates a number of townships, including Halls Gap, Dunkeld, Wartook, Moyston and Pomonal.

Grampians History

History - the region has some fascinating history and its links with the gold rush of the 1850’s can be found in Stawell and Ararat plus there the remains of the gold mining settlement at Mafeking which is about 20 kms south of Halls Gap.There is a granite memorial erected in 1964 which marks the site of Mafeking township, however a lot of the site was destroyed in the bushfires of January 2006.
